Amaryl is an oral medication for diabetes that assists in managing blood sugar levels. It enhances your body's ability to respond to the insulin produced by your pancreas.
Amaryl is utilized alongside diet and exercise to manage type 2 diabetes (non-insulin dependent). If necessary, insulin or other diabetes medications may be prescribed in conjunction with this treatment.
Typically, Amaryl is taken once daily with breakfast or the first main meal of the day. Always adhere to your doctor's instructions. Take Amaryl with a full glass of water. Be aware of the signs of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and how to identify them: headache, hunger, weakness, sweating, tremors, irritability, or difficulty concentrating.
Maintain a source of sugar on hand in case you experience symptoms of low blood sugar. Suitable sugar sources include orange juice, glucose gel, candy, or milk. If you experience severe hypoglycemia and are unable to eat or drink, administer a glucagon injection. Your physician can provide a prescription for a glucagon emergency injection kit and instruct you on how to administer it.
Your dosage may need to be adjusted in instances of illness, fever, infection, surgery, or medical emergencies.
Consult your doctor on how to modify your Amaryl dosage if necessary. Avoid altering your medication dosage or schedule without your doctor's guidance.
Your blood sugar levels will require frequent monitoring, and you may need additional blood tests at your doctor's office. Make sure to visit your doctor regularly.
Seek emergency medical assistance if you experience any signs of an allergic reaction to Amaryl: hives; trouble breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of these serious side effects while taking Amaryl: severe skin rash, itching, redness, or irritation; pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding, fever, unusual weakness; numbness or a tingling sensation; difficulty breathing; feeling faint; dark urine, or clay-colored stools.
